[Romania] The 7 Ladders Canyon
Coming back from a very nice trip in the Ciucaș Mountains and passing through the Brasov county, the 7 LaddersCanyon is a must see. Very close to the city of Brasov and easy reachable by car, is a very nice place to enjoy a sunny Sunday if you are not afraid of heights.
A good idea would be to get there as early as possible in the morning to have enough time to enjoy the landscape and not be bothered by too many tourists. Being close to Brasov and easy reachable by car, it can get very crowded. Especially now since it has been renovated, new stairs have been built and it’s now even easier to climb the canyon.
From the parking place, you will have to walk about 30 minutes on the yellow line hiking trail. The path is through the forest, easy to walk on it.
The Seven Ladders Canyon (Romanian: Canionul Șapte Scări) is a mountainous canyon carved by the Șapte Scări Brook. It is considered to be one of the main tourist attractions from the Piatra Mare massif. The canyon has been carved in limestone and is composed by seven waterfalls, the tallest having 35 meters high. The trail within the canyon is arranged with metal stairs and platforms.
Visiting the canyon will only last about 30 minutes, depending on how crowded it is and how much you have to stay in line to climb all the stairs.
After you get out of the canyon, you can enjoy a very nice walk in the forest. There are some hiking trails, with a low difficulty.
The entry fee is 10 LEI and you can visit it every day.
Here is a short video of the canyon, before it was renovated. Now the trail looks much better and is safe for everyone, including small children.
