[UK] The Chatsworth House

In May this year we had a one week trip to the UK to finally visit some friends who have been living in Chesterfield for the last 7 – 8 years. And since Wizzair decided to introduce a flight from Sibiu to London 3 times a week, it was the perfect excuse to finally make this trip happen. About Chesterfield there isn’t too much to day, it’s just a small English town, like probably all small English towns are, but during our vacation there we took a one day trip to the Chatsworth House, which we found to be a very nice and relaxing place to be.

Chatsworth House is a stately home in Derbyshire. It is in the Derbyshire Dales, about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-east of Bakewell and 9 miles (14 km) west of Chesterfield. It is the seat of the Duke of Devonshire and has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549 and it seems has been selected as the United Kingdom’s favourite country house several times.

IMAG2639We didn’t visit the interior of the House, which I did read on the internet afterwards that it’s quite impressive and has a very beautiful architecture, but we did spend almost all day exploring all the gardens around the House, which are just amazing.

Vast lands surround the House, with all sorts of trees and flowers which are just a beautiful delight for your eyes. And visiting in May was perfect as all flowers bloomed and you could see all colors around you.

Every part of the vast garden is very well organized and taken care of. You can also see a maze, where you can wonder around and try to find your way out, greenhouses, an Arboretum and a Pinetum, fountains and lakes, farmland and stables, classic and modern sculptures.

Getting to the Chatsworth was quite easy from Chesterfield, we only took one bus for about 30 minutes and then walked to the entrance to the gardens of the House. I will have to tell you that visiting the whole property will mean a lot of walking, so prepare for this, your feet will hurt a bit at the end of the day. Of course you can always take a break and there are also some restaurants around and places where you can get something fast to drink or eat.

To get to the House it will cost £22 and you will get all the necessary information from the official website.
