This book got into my hands as a recommendation for getting ready for the South Africa trip and it turned out to be a very inspired decision to read this book prior to the departure.
The journalist, Alex Perry, writes this book after traveling through out all the African continent trying to understand the past, the presented and to see in which direction this continent will go in the future.
Alex Perry meets Africans and talks to them trying to find out as many things as possible to get a clear view on what’s happening on the continent. The realities are painful, the stories he hears about are sometimes very hard and almost impossible to believe they are true.
The book gives a very good insight on the countries in Africa. You get a quite clear view on the social and political context of each country, with reasons and explanations as to why things are how they are now. It also talks about all of the humanitarian issues the continent is struggling with: famine, AIDS, terrorism, corruption).
This book is a great document that gives the world a clear view on Africa and the realities around this continent. A very good lecture if you are planning to visit this part of the world.
