I’ve begun reading “ Steinbeck – A Life in Letters”. As you might imagine it is not your everyday book. It is a collection of 850 letters.
Have you ever seen a regular pentagram with the binary interior? That’s how I used to draw stars when I was a child. Of course, at that time, I did not know what a regular pentagram with the binary interior was (still not sure what it is exactly). Anyway, this is how this story is. It has 5 vertices, 5 layers, to be more precise. One is about being the best that we can be (or, at least, try to be) another is about the Austrian culture and their ability to be extremely efficient, the third one is about friends, the fourth is about sharing, and the fifth one is about my friend, Flo, who is currently living in Berlin.
I love reading. It is not only that I enjoy a good book from time to time, but rather I cannot live my life without reading. I am fully aware that I am not special in my feeling this way and that this is far from being an original thought, yet the truth, however unoriginal it may be, remains. I not only enjoy the story portrayed in a book, but also the style of the writing. For me it is like travelling and I am a traveler – a small one, truth be told, but a traveler nonetheless. A traveler cannot but love reading and a reader cannot but love travelling, so when I discovered Life of Pi I was immersed in a total feeling of happiness (I feel a small note is necessary at this point. This book was recommended to me by Tudor, one of my best friends. You cannot begin to imagine the pleasure I feel when I discover good books, good movies, good music, good food, good… anything with the help of my friends. It brings me great joy not only because it is “good”… whatever that is {books, food, shoes, music, theatre plays}, but also because I see it as a gift they have so generously made to me and, also, a window into their souls that they have trusted me to peep into. But I digress, as I usually do.)
It has been almost one week since I came back from Istanbul. I am at my 3rd Turkish coffee today and I still can’t figure out how to start my article on Istanbul. I always find it hard to start writing, especially when I want to write about something that I feel must be shared. I wrote an introduction for this text about three times already, and every time I stopped, unsatisfied, only to continue to do something else: reading “Life of pi”, looking at some of my photos and realizing that only 10 out of 300 are really good. But that’s beside the point right now.
Well, I guess there’s no way around it, so I might just start at the beginning.
For the past 6 days I’ve been wondering aimlessly (more or less) on the streets of Lisbon. I planned this journey together with my best friend (Petru) at the beginning of this year. The main reason we wanted to go there, was because we really wanted to see Radiohead. Their concert was part of a 3 days festival which has been held in Lisbon for the past 6 years. But we’ll get to that soon. Patience!
