Like every capital city that respects itself, Vilnius has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants, pubs and bars. The first step in discovering the authentic ones is to go to the Tourism Office in Vilnius and ask for the ‘Lithuanian Food and Beer in Vilnius’ Brochure which will give you a full list of places to eat out (from traditional to fine dine dinning) and to taste some of Lithuania’s best beers. -21°C today, a very cold January day that keeps me from wanting to go out too much and got me thinking about summer and warm days again. A perfect opportunity to have a look at what new places we discovered last year. So for all of you out there in search of some vacation plans, here’s a list of our 2018 destinations in Europe.
As we spent 9 days in Lithuania, wondering around the country, we did offer a bit of our daily time to check out places to taste some of this country’s cuisine. We did come back with a few kilos extra, mainly because the traditional dishes are quite heavy, with a mixture of potatoes, meat and pastry and not too many fresh veggies. But still, it’s worth digging into what this country has to offer in terms of gastronomy.
Our last day in Lithuania was entirely dedicated to Vilnius. We spent two nights in this city, but had only one full day to explore it.

This day was for sure one of the highlights of our Lithuanian road trip. Lots of outdoor, sun, nature, wild life, a blend that we’re always looking for.
Our third day of the road trip in Lithuania had as a final destination the Baltic Sea. We were hoping to have a good weather and do some swimming and relax on the beach, but we had a rather cranky day, with clouds, a bit of rain on the way and some quite heavy wind when we finally got to Palanga in the afternoon.
Our second day of visiting Lithuania started after the electronic music festival we attended. As we were still recovering a bit, it was a short day, with just a few stops. Also the weather was not the ideal one, with clouds and a bit of rain, considering that what we had planned for this day was to stay mostly outdoor.
If you’re looking for a destination with lots of outdoors, with green forests and lakes all around, with small and airy villages and not so crowded cities, the Baltic countries might suite you just right. As right as it suited us the 6 days we spent driving and camping around Lithuania, the Baltic country that opened our appetite for more.
