[Romania] The Râşnov Fortified Church

I like the Fortified Churches of Transylvania so much! I find them one of the most important landmarks of this area of Romania. This time, it’s about the Rasnov fortified church.

Built in the 13th century, the Saint Matias Evangelical Church lays in the center of Rasnov, right below the Rasnov Citadel. It was first built as a Roman Basilica and then fortified in the gothic style.

The church was severely damaged over the years by fires and earthquakes. It’s actual form dates from the 19th century, when a new tower was built and a new bell was brought in.

Unfortunately, when we got there on a Sunday afternoon, the church was closed and we couldn’t visit the interior.
