[Romania] Alma Vii Fortified Church

The Alma Vii Fortified Church was the last one to visit during our first weekend road trip around the beautiful Saxon villages in the Sibiu county. The church welcomed us from up the hill, right before entering the village.

The church, built in the XIV century is a rather small one, but the fortifications built about 2 centuries later are quite imposing. The church was recently renovated (it was first renovated in 1966) and it’s in a very good condition.

The fortress has 4 towers out of which one has round edges, considered to be one of a kind in Transylvania.

The towers host now small expositions of paintings and artifacts of the mixed cultures in the area – Saxon, Romanian and Roma.

For those who would like to spend more time inside the fortress, there is also a small library with books in Romanian, English and German. You can borrow them and enjoy a nice afternoon of reading.

There’s also a small shop with traditional products from the village.
