Street Food in Sibiu is, in my humble opinion, a sort of a myth. We don’t really have this street food mentality and unfortunately, the city tends to get full of wannabe street food places with pretzels, frozen pizza and sandwiches filled with too much mayonnaise and garlic.

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us.
The Slow Food Trail (Poteca Slow Food) is a project implemented by Slow Food Sibiu with the aim of bringing children closer to nature, to the village life, to traditions and to the concept of slow living.

For a visitor, Sibiu is mostly known for its old medieval town, with pedestrian areas, colorful houses with small windows in their attics called ‘the eyes of Sibiu’, for its German heritage, for its large and beautiful squares, for the villages surrounding it. Except the old town area, a few parks, the village museum, the city is mostly gray, with tall buildings, lots of cars and nothing too attractive to show. But SISAF (Sibiu International Street Art Festival) managed for the last couple of years to change this gray image a bit.
Sibiu International Theatre Festival is an event that promotes excellence in the Performing Arts. The festival represents, besides a celebration of arts, a perfect combination of theatre, music, dance, circus, movie, conferences, exhibitions and an opportunity for connections and friendships.
Today starts in Sibiu the 4th edition of ESTE Film Festival, a celebration of the European film. Between 17th and 21st of April, the most awarded and appreciated European productions (and not only) reach Sibiu.
Now that the wonderful 2019 European Region of Gastronomy year has begun in Sibiu, let me explain some words that we frequently use in our relationship with food. I will firstly answer the following questions: What exactly does gastronomy mean? What does Slow Food stand for? Why should we eat locally? On the other hand, what is the New Transylvanian Cuisine? Let us take it gradually and see how all of these matters provide value to us here in Sibiu, in 2019 the Year of the European Gastronomic Region.
Horse-riding is not necessarily a very common activity in Sibiu or even in Romania. There are people who are passionate about horses and horse-riding, there are some well known stud farms, but sometimes people are reluctant to try this sport.
Mid September – still summer temperatures and sunny in Sibiu, still plenty of tourists taking photos of our medieval old town, still the main squares of the city bustling with concerts, outdoor events and a big crowd. And somewhere on the Mitropoliei Street, right next to the Big Square (Piata Mare), at Jules Bistro, in their summer garden, a handful of well known Romanian chefs from all over the country get together for 3 full days to bring gastronomy to a next level.
The Evangelical Church of Saint Mary from the Huet Square is the most famous Gothic-style church in Sibiu and its massive 73.34 m high bell tower is a landmark of the city. Every Friday morning, from 10 AM to 1 PM, going up the 192 stairs to get to the top of the tower bell will give you not only a beautiful view over Sibiu and its surroundings, but also a proper gastronomy lesson.
